In 1973, Societe Generale was one of the first European banks to open a branch in Tokyo. Today, Societe Generale Group has 350 employees in Japan working in two key businesses: Corporate and Investment Banking and Private Banking.

Launched in June 2002 through the acquisition of the Chase Trust Bank (Japan), Societe Generale Private Banking Japan, is the only foreign trust bank offering a comprehensive range of private banking services to Japanese high net worth clients under a single roof. Furthermore, it was nominated Best Private Bank in Japan by Euromoney in 2009.

With offices in Tokyo and Osaka, Societe Generale Private Banking Japan has 120 staff members managed by Christophe Billard, President and CEO. As of the end of June 2011, it managed assets of 456 billion JPY (4,3 billion EUR).
